Equip India Establishes Ministry Presence in Bhutan
BHUTAN - Despite severe restrictions on religious
freedom and widespread persecution of Christians, Equip India has established a
significant ministry presence within the Kingdom of Bhutan over the past
decade. This small Himalayan nation, landlocked between China and India, has a
population of 708,000, with 91% considered unreached by Christianity.
Christians in Bhutan face dire consequences for their faith, including the denial of citizenship and essential benefits such as free education, healthcare, employment, and access to utilities. Harassment and beatings have also been reported. Church buildings are strictly forbidden, forcing an estimated 10,000 believers to meet secretly.
Despite these formidable challenges, Equip India
remains committed to equipping young Bhutanese Christians. Their efforts focus
on providing instruction and training in how to share the Gospel discreetly
within their existing networks of relationships.
This ongoing ministry aims to support the growth of
the underground church and empower believers to reach their communities for
Christ in a highly restrictive environment.
