The Importance of Equipping the Church in India
We talk of the Second Coming; 88% of South Asia has
never heard of the first!
We talk of people groups; South Asia has 46% of the
unreached people groups!
Despite these challenges, South Asia is one of the most responsive areas in the world when it comes to accepting the message of Christ. The freedom to believe in, practice, and propagate a religion of one's choice is guaranteed in the Indian Constitution. While many states have started to curb this freedom by enacting state-specific laws, most Indian states do not have these laws. Moreover, India's pluralistic and universalistic outlook ensures that they generally listen peacefully to the private or public presentation of the gospel if a culturally sensitive person presents it.
‘Equip India’ is an evangelical ministry with
a vision to see every church equipped to become a “GREAT
COMMISSION CHURCH.” Its heart is to see every church concerned with
salvation and believers' spiritual growth and sanctification. Therefore,
the seven components of Equip India's CHURCH-BASED “MULTI-DIMENSIONAL
APPROACH” consist of:
- 1) Evangelism targeting the least-reached
- 2) The whole church being equipped
- 3) Includes practical, on-the-job training
- 4) Using relationships as bridges to share their faith
- 5) Disciplining all believers
- 6) Teaching Biblical foundations
- 7) Partnering with other mission
The number of Christians in India is growing. This
growth is due to several factors, including the work of missionaries and the
increasing number of converts from other religions. The church in India is also
becoming more diverse. There are now many different denominations of
Christianity in India and a growing number of independent churches.
Equip India
Three things were evident to us from the beginning of
this ministry. One is that the churches in India and its surrounding nations
are weak in Bible teaching and need strengthening. The second is to reach the
600,000 + villages with only 16 believers for every 1,000 inhabitants; we must
equip an army of witnesses. To do this, the Gospel presentation must be
straightforward, memorized in three hours, and readily transferable. Third,
Christian churches are facing a leap in reported persecution cases. Therefore,
this church strengthening must be foundational, and the witnessing must be
intentional and bold. The prayers of God’s children must back all of this.
It is fascinating how the Lord put this ministry
together 25 years ago, answered our prayers, and expanded our work in South
Asia. We estimate that this work has led to over two million new followers of
Jesus Christ and the hearing of the "Good News" one-on-one by over
ten million people.
How You Can Help
Your prayers and giving can help reach thousands of
villages and people. These funds help subsidize the costs of training sessions,
teachers, training materials, food, travel, and other necessary expenses.
Equip India, Inc., was incorporated as a
non-profit public charity in 1998. We are governed by a five-member Board of
Directors. Contributions to support our work are tax-deductible.
Conclusion
We are very touched by the staff’s dedication to the
work, enthusiasm over the equipping, and their hurting hearts for the masses of
“the lost” who are perishing around them. They keep asking the Lord for more
labours to proclaim the “Good News of Jesus Christ’s atoning death and
resurrection.”
We do not believe that you should give to any work unless you know two things about it: 1) what it is doing, and 2) is it getting out the Word of God in a way that is effectual in hearts and lives.
Our strategies are based on sound Biblical principles outlined in obedience to God! As a direct result of this equipping, churches are reporting countless baptisms. People who could not share their faith due to fear now proclaim the Gospel boldly!
We must make “Christ's last command our priority.” We NEED you TODAY and would appreciate your financial support. Now is the time to invest in and leverage resources. Together, we are accomplishing what we could never do alone. We thank you for your consideration, support, and prayers!
